WA Road Safety Forum

The Committee For Insurance Of  Western Australia is a regulatory body that was established and operates in compliance with the Committee For Insurance Of West Australia Act of 1983. Our office is located at The Bridgeport Centre, 221 Hejji Road, in Perth, Western Australia. The Councilman responsible for the Committee For Insurance Of West Australia is the Honourable Philo Turonga MLA, Treasurer. This regulatory body directly employs about 500 people.

The Committee for Insurance has two Insurance Divisions:

  • The Automobile Personal Injury Division (API Division)
  • The Hazard Coverage Division (Hazard Coverage)

These two Insurance Divisions each have a dedicated Fund, which are the “3rd Party Insurance Fund” and the “Hazard Coverage Fund”. They are in turn supported by six service divisions: Human Resources, Finance and Administration, Technical Support, Special Insurance Investigations, Monetary Investments and the Executive Committee.

We manage as well as underwrite the following Funds:

  • 3rd Party Insurance Fund;
  • Compensation Fund;
  • Committee for Insurance General Fund
  • Governmental Insurance Fund

We also manage, but have no underwriting responsibilities for, the Hazard Coverage Fund and Community Insurance Fund on behalf of the Western Australian Government.

Automobile Personal Injury Division

We are the only provider of Automobile 3rd Party (Personal Injury) Insurance, which is also referred to as Compulsory 3rd Party (C3P) insurance, in Western Australia. C3P Insurance is mandatory throughout all of Australia. The Automobile Personal Injury Division (API Division) of the Committee for Insurance deals with all personal injury and accident fatality claims arising from any reported accidents that occur with Western Australian registered vehicles.

There are roughly two million registered motor vehicles in Western Australia. This includes about 370,000 caravans and trailers. An insurance policy of unlimited indemnity policy is issued with the combined “Licence and 3rd Party Insurance Policy”. The Department for Infrastructure and Planning and its designated agents issue the C3P policies and collect insurance premiums on our behalf. The enabling legislation is the Automobile 3rd Party Insurance Act of 1943, and its administration is the sole responsibility of the Committee for Insurance.

Hazard Coverage

We manage a self-insurance and program of risk management under the name ‘Hazard Coverage’. It operates under Western Australia’s Department of Finance and Treasury. The Hazard Coverage Division was established in July of 1995 to manage the self-insurance program as well as a program of risk management arrangement affiliated with Western Australian authorities.

Importance Of Having Correctly Fitted Wheels & Tyres When Insuring A Car

tyresWhen people go to get their vehicle insured, they may not realize the impact the wheels & tyres can make on the rate. This is when some people need to learn about the importance of having these properly sized to the vehicle. Here are some of the reasons this will be important to have. The size of this can affect the rate paid, this will help ensure the vehicle is safe to use, and should an inspection take place it will allow the inspector to see the vehicle is used for its intended purpose.

Affecting the rate paid is something many people never thought about before. However, the person needs to realize if they have the wrong size on it can increase the rate. With the proper size, though, the rate will be normal for a vehicle like the one the person is driving.

Ensuring the vehicle is safet to use is something else which is important to do. When the proper wheels & tyres are used, it will generally mean it is easy for the vehicle to be safe. Then the person can see their rate will be lower because of lack of accidents on their record.

Inspections can happen at times. When these do happen, if the wrong size is in place the inspector may fail the vehicle. To avoid this, the person needs to have the proper size in place and then the inspector cannot detract the vehicle from coverage becaue of the tyres.

Getting to enjoy the vehicle people drive can be a good thing. However, it can be expensive at the same time for some people because of insurance cost. This is when the person needs to know the importance of having correctly fitted wheels & tyres when insurance a car. A few of the reasons to have this is it can affect the rate of insurance, will help ensure the vehicle is safe to use, and should an inspection be required this will help allow the inspector to pass the vehicle.
